About Us
Five Waters Farm is a 50 acre farm in rural North Carolina. It is named after the two ponds and three streams that water the farm, and give life and habitat not just to us but to all the wild flora and fauna we call our neighbors. The farm began many years ago as a hobby farm to feed our young family and provide a good space in which our kids could grow up.
We have set aside more than half the farm to remain in its wild state; as such, our farm has been recognized by the state of North Carolina as a stewardship forest. We only interfere in its life by removing invasive plants. We are as proud of all the different creatures that call our farm home as we are of our chickens and lambs.
We use no drugs of any kind to raise our livestock. We maintain low animal concentrations so that the natural processes and biota of the soil can keep the farm healthy, fertile, and vibrant. You can’t hide sick animals. Healthy animals are quick, bright eyed, shiny and confident. If animals look or act otherwise, they are not as healthy as they should be.
At this time, we are not interested in seeking an organic certification. The good idea that was “organic certification” has been hijacked by big ag, and that’s all we’ll say on the subject. We like to think our farm is “you certified”. You are welcome to visit our farm whenever it suits you. When you visit, please make sure to introduce yourself. You are welcome to walk wherever you like, but
-
please don’t open any gates,
-
please don’t chase the animals, and
-
Please don’t bring any pets.
. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about how we do things.
