Chestnuts
Our grove contains 100 Dunstan Chestnut trees, a cross between the American and Chinese Chestnuts, and producing a nut as close to the American chestnut as anyone alive will ever get to try.
The nuts are smaller, firmer, and tastier than their Asian and European cousins, and can be roasted, toasted, ground into flour, cooked in a broth, or a sauce, or just plain eaten out of the shell.
Our chestnut grove is young and just beginning to produce nuts. If you would like to give them a try, please consider bringing a small bucket or basket and picking your own.
Nuts ripen and fall from the tree starting in late September or early October. It is a pleasant time just walking around the grove, even if no nuts are found.
Look for our Chestnuts every fall!
